Rail Tank Wagons

Rail tank wagon for petroleum products

Rail tank wagons move bulk petroleum in volume along fixed corridors, with a block of wagons carrying what would otherwise take a fleet of trucks. The Freeport of Riga, Ventspils and Liepāja all have rail sidings at the oil terminals, so product loads directly from tank storage into wagons and rails to inland depots or border transloading points.

Typical cargo

  • Diesel, gasoil and petrol in volume
  • Heavy fuel oil and vacuum gasoil in heated wagons
  • Base oils and lubricants in dedicated wagons
  • Crude and feedstock parcels on terminal-to-refinery lanes

How we deploy it

We book the wagons and the terminal loading slot, issue the rail consignment note (CIM in the EU, SMGS on the 1520 mm network) and apply the RID or SMGS dangerous-goods rules for the route. At the break of gauge with the European standard-gauge network, product is transloaded or the wagons bogie-exchanged, and we plan that step into the schedule. You receive loaded quantities per wagon, a status at each interchange and the discharge record at delivery.
